See the learning in action

One whole adventure, Oli and Ru and the Lost Lanterns of Bramblewick, for one school year, question by question: what each question practises, a good answer, other answers that are accepted, and exactly how the answer is marked. Then the same moment at Year 3 and Year 6, and an example of the reading report a child sees at the end.

Each question’s reading skill is mapped to the KS2 reading content domains (STA test framework), our own mapping. Answers are checked by simple word-matching rules in the browser, not by a person and not by AI. The rules can turn down an unusual answer that is right, and a child can sometimes pass by guessing the right words, so please use your own judgement. How answers are judged

How every answer is marked

Easy
The answer needs one of the accepted ideas. A sentence starter is offered, and it never gives the answer away.
Medium
The answer needs an idea from each group shown. Inference and summarising answers need a reason or a second detail; a half-answer gets a prompt to add more.
Hard
As Medium, and where the evidence rule applies the answer must also include a detail taken from the passage.
Evidence rule
Always
Words copied from the question do not count. Close spellings are accepted. A wrong answer gets a clue from the guide, never the answer.
