Class summary
See how children on this device got on, which reading skills they found easy and where they needed a clue. Everything on this page stays on this device.
Class device mode
Turn this on for a shared class laptop or iPad. Each time a child finishes an adventure on this device, their first name, the adventure, the level and their scores are kept here for you to see. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else.
Leave it off for home or personal devices. When it is off, nothing is saved.

Year and challenge: the child picks their school year (3, 4, 5 or 6) and a challenge. The year sets how hard the story text is and which reading skills are asked about. Easy gives friendlier questions and a clue straight away. The sentence starter sits behind a “Need a start?” button and appears by itself after the first try; in Year 3, or when any support setting or child profile is on, it shows straight away. Medium is the full mix for that year. Hard asks trickier questions, gives fewer clues, and needs the child to give their answer plus a set number of details from the story (one or two, depending on the question). “Because” is welcome but not required once the evidence is there.
Reading skills match the KS2 reading test areas: Vocabulary (2a), Retrieval (2b), Summarising (2c), Inference (2d), Prediction (2e), Structure (2f), Author’s choice (2g) and Comparing (2h).
Stars for each reading skill: ★★★ right first time every time, ★★ mostly first time, ★ got there with a clue or a second try, – not asked in that adventure.
Class celebration board
Show the class how hard everyone has been working: adventures and chapters finished, having another go after a tricky question, personal bests and moving up a level. There are no scores, no rankings and no wrong answers on the board, and children appear in A to Z order (or shuffled) by first name only.
The board uses only the results already kept on this device. Nothing new is saved about children and nothing is sent anywhere.

Support settings for this device
Pick a ready-made set of supports for the child using this device. Children can change their own settings with the Comfort button unless you lock them.
Children on this device
Save a child’s supports under their first name or initials, so they can choose “Who’s reading?” at the start of an adventure. Nothing else about them is kept.
Move settings to another device
Download a small file, or copy a short code, and load it on another device. It works without the internet and holds only the settings and first names or initials above.
Press “Make a code” to fill this box, then copy it. To load one, paste a code here and press “Use this code”.
Remove all children’s data
Removes every Underhill Adventures setting, saved result and child name from this browser on this device.
Privacy
By default, Underhill Adventures saves nothing about children. Only device settings, such as sound on or off, are remembered.
When class device mode is on, results are stored only in this browser on this device (no accounts, no server and no tracking) until you press Clear all or clear the browser’s data. We only keep a first name, so ask children to use a first name or initials.
